Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers to common questions about JR Canines.
About the Organization
Yes. JR Canines (officially "Juniper Ridge Canines") is a 501(c)(3) public charity registered with the IRS. Our EIN (Tax ID) is 84-3538406. Donations to JR Canines are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
JR Canines serves Juniper Ridge Resort, a 55+ community in Show Low, Arizona. While our legal address is in Show Low, we are specifically focused on the Juniper Ridge Resort neighborhood and its residents.
JR Canines is run entirely by volunteers. We have a small board of directors made up of Juniper Ridge Resort residents who donate their time to govern the organization, manage funds, and coordinate programs. There are no paid staff members.
Our EIN (Employer Identification Number) is 84-3538406. You may need this number if you're making a donation through a donor-advised fund, workplace giving program, or for your own tax records.
About Our Programs
We offer basic obedience workshops and educational sessions taught by experienced volunteers. These are not professional certification programs or advanced behavioral training. For serious behavioral issues or specialized training needs, we recommend consulting a licensed professional trainer or veterinary behaviorist.
No. JR Canines does not work with dogs that have a history of aggression toward people or other animals. Aggression requires professional intervention. We can provide referrals to qualified trainers or veterinary behaviorists who specialize in these issues.
Training workshops are typically announced through community bulletin boards, email, or word of mouth. If you'd like to be notified about upcoming sessions, please contact us and ask to be added to our notification list.
JR Canines is not a professional pet care service, but we do facilitate neighbor-to-neighbor support. If you're facing a temporary challenge (like recovering from surgery), we may be able to connect you with a volunteer who can help for a short period. However, this is not a guaranteed or ongoing service. Please contact us to discuss your situation.
About the Dog Park
The dog park is intended primarily for residents of Juniper Ridge Resort and their guests. Visitors are welcome when accompanied by a resident. Specific access policies may be set by the community association—check with your HOA or JR Canines for current guidelines.
Basic rules typically include:
- Keep dogs leashed until inside the off-leash area
- Pick up after your dog immediately
- Supervise your dog at all times
- Remove aggressive dogs immediately
- Dogs must be current on vaccinations
- Close gates behind you to prevent escapes
Detailed rules are posted at the park entrance.
This depends on the current park configuration. We aim to provide separate areas for large and small dogs when possible, but space and funding constraints may limit this. Check the current park layout or contact us for details.
First, try a friendly, polite reminder—most people want to do the right thing and may not be aware they're breaking a rule. If the behavior continues or if there's a safety concern, please report it to the Juniper Ridge Resort community management or contact JR Canines. We can address recurring issues through education and communication.
About Donations

Yes. All donors receive a written acknowledgment suitable for tax purposes. The receipt will include our EIN, the date and amount of your gift, and confirmation that no goods or services were provided in exchange (unless applicable).
Donations fund dog park improvements (fencing, waste stations, benches, lighting), educational programs (workshops, printed materials), community support initiatives, and minimal administrative costs (insurance, legal filings, website). Our volunteer board oversees spending to ensure every dollar is used responsibly. For more detail, see our Governance page.
Absolutely. Memorial and tribute gifts are a meaningful way to honor a beloved dog, celebrate a friend's love of animals, or recognize a neighbor's contributions. We will send an acknowledgment card to the person or family you designate. Include a note with your donation specifying the honoree and where the acknowledgment should be sent.
Getting Involved
We welcome volunteers for park maintenance, training workshops, event support, and administrative tasks. There's no formal application process—just reach out and let us know how you'd like to help. We'll connect you with opportunities that match your interests and availability.
No. While many volunteers are dog owners, you don't need to have a dog to contribute. If you care about community, enjoy helping neighbors, or have skills to share, you're welcome to get involved.
Our programs are designed specifically for Juniper Ridge Resort residents, so most volunteer opportunities are best suited to people who live in or are closely connected to the community. However, if you have specialized skills or resources to offer, we're happy to discuss how you might contribute. Contact us to talk about possibilities.
